I'm barbecuebobby. Today I wrote an syllabus of a class that starts in October.
The most difficult part seems to be assessment. I have to show students how many percent of the grade will be from regular written test and how many percent will be from oral test. Assessing oral performance is especially hard for me because students usually do not show big difference in speaking. If I strictly grade their performance, most of them are below acceptable line. On the other hand, I cannot just give everybody good grades.
So I think I have to pre-plan some oral activities that students must learn by the time of oral test. I guess the basic idea of assessing speaking skill is very similar to the assessment of writing skills.
Today they started selling "Lilo and Stitch 2" DVD in the stores in Japan. I bought and saw it this evening. The English is so easy that even low level students can understand this. Besides, this series is very good material for teaching human values.
